Best Covid Response - Commercial Property *NEW*

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit parts of the commercial property industry very hard, notably the office, retail, hospitality and leisure sectors. But many businesses, organisations and individuals responded quickly, boldly and with great ingenuity to the crisis and have, against the odds, achieved success in the most challenging market of recent times. Were you one of them? If yes, we want to hear from you. We are looking to celebrate a brilliant business, organisation or individual that has faced down the Covid threat and emerged from the crisis all the stronger for it, not necessarily financially.

You may have had to pivot as a business to continue operating during lockdown. Did you introduce an initiative or project to support tenants or residents? Or maybe you collaborated with other organisations on an important Covid-response initiative. Were you able to find a way to keep going where others in your sector did not?

Climate Crisis Initiative - Commercial Property *NEW*

Over the past few years, climate change has rocketed to the top of the agenda, fuelled by the UK government’s target to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050 – one of the most ambitious carbon targets in the world.

The property industry is one of the biggest parts of the problem – the built environment is responsible for an estimated 40% of emissions – and potentially one of the biggest parts of the solution.

This year, to tie in with the second year of Property Week’s Climate Crisis Challenge campaign, we want to celebrate the ground-breaking work the commercial property sector is doing to tackle the climate crisis and improve the sector’s environmental credentials.

This new award for 2021 is aimed at organisations and individuals working in the commercial property sector that have implemented, completed or committed to a transformative ESG or climate-focused scheme, strategy or initiative in the past year (1 December 2019 to 31 January 2021).

This category is open to organisations and individuals primarily operating in commercial real estate. If you are primarily in the residential or student accommodation sectors, please enter the equivalent category in the RESI Awards or Student Accommodation Awards.

We are not looking for the biggest projects, we are looking for the best. The judges will be looking for evidence of the following:

  • The scheme, initiative or strategy is ESG or climate focused
  • Why it is transformative/innovative/disruptive

  • Scale and ambition
  • Commitment to net zero carbon
  • Top ratings in known accreditation schemes such as BREEAM or the WELL Building Standard

Wellbeing and Health Initiative - Commercial Property *NEW*

Covid has shone the spotlight on mental health and health and wellbeing. New for 2021, the health and wellbeing award aims to celebrate the organisation or individual that has done the most in the past year to support the health and wellbeing of staff, occupiers or the local community.

We are looking for an exemplar initiative, scheme or project that has raised the bar in terms of health and wellbeing. Has your building achieved a WELL certification and/or best-in-class environmental accreditation standard rating (e.g. BREEAM, LEED, SKA)? Have you done something ground-breaking to support the health and wellbeing of your staff or occupiers? Perhaps you have prioritised health and wellbeing features in a new scheme. Have you worked collaboratively on a community-focused project aimed at enhancing community health and wellbeing?

This category is open to organisations and individuals primarily operating in commercial real estate. If you are primarily in the residential or student accommodation sectors, please enter the equivalent category in the RESI Awards or Student Accommodation Awards.

The judges will be looking for evidence of the following:

Alternatives Team of the Year

Do you have a dedicated alternatives team that deals with some or more of the following alternative asset classes: student housing, PRS, retirement living, healthcare, hotels, self -storage, data centres, automotive, education and renewables?

Have you moved the dial in the past year (1 December 2019 to 31 January 2021) with a ground-breaking initiative, strategy or deal? Are you blazing a trail that others are following? Then we want to hear from you. This category is open to all teams specialising in alternatives.

The judges will be looking for evidence of the following:

  • How you have moved the dial
  • Details of key deals and why they were so significant
  • Robust financial performance – perhaps against the odds

Deal of the Year - Commercial Property

Have you pulled off a ground-breaking commercial property deal against the odds? Has your business struck a property or corporate deal or entered into an important joint venture that moved the dial? Have you done a deal that shouldn’t have been possible in a pandemic? Then we want to hear from you.

To qualify, the deal has to have completed within the past year (between 1 December 2019 and 31 January 2021).

It does not have to be the biggest transaction, but it does have to be the best – whether it is a merger or acquisition of another organisation, an acquisition or sale of property or an innovative joint venture.

Are you the standout commercial real estate developer of the past year? Have you developed landmark schemes, pulled off ground-breaking deals, embarked on innovative joint ventures or pioneered new ideas that have changed the face of property development in the UK? Have you moved the dial in terms of the ESG or social impact agendas? Have you raised the bar architecturally or developed a scheme that has helped regenerate an area? Then we want to hear from you.


We are looking to reward achievements specifically between 1 December 2019 and 31 January 2021.

Have you been an early mover in an area or sector that no-one else saw the potential of? Then we want to hear from you.

Financier of the Year - Commercial Property

This category aims to celebrate an organisation or individual that has moved the dial in the way they have has provided debt or equity financing to the commercial property market in the past year (1 December 2019 to 31 January 2021). Has your firm been particularly innovative in its approach to development finance or forward funding packages, for example? Has it targeted new areas of growth? Has it done something that makes it stand out from the crowd? Has it done something innovative to address the challenges posed by the Covid pandemic? Then we want to hear from you.

This category is aimed at industrial teams and agencies – large or small – that provide leasing, sales, funding, site acquisition, investment and development advice and professional services to the industrial property sector.


This is an award not for the biggest agency but the best, so if you run a niche agency or are only focused on one region, this should not preclude you from entering.

The judges will be looking for evidence of the following:

  • How you moved the dial
  • Impact of Covid and how you overcame challenges posed by the pandemic
  • Details of key deals and why they were so significant

This award, in honour of the late, great Irvine Sellar, aims to celebrate an outstanding individual who has shaken up the market with a truly ground-breaking project or initiative over the past 12 months‎. Have you disrupted the market with a new initiative, model or scheme that has been truly transformative, a game changer? Are you an outlier who does things differently and brilliantly? This category is open to organisations and individuals that have launched within the last three years or moved into a new sector in the last three years (January 2018 to January 2021). We are looking for the rising stars of the property industry, whether you are in development, investment, agency, proptech or fund management.


This category is open to organisations and individuals primarily operating in commercial real estate. If you are primarily in the residential or student accommodation sectors, please enter the equivalent category in the RESI Awards or Student Accommodation Awards.

The category is open to commercial real estate teams only and the entry should include financial information relating to the number of transactions, volume of space transacted or investment deals transacted, transactional fee income, consultancy fee income, repeat business and income per full-time fee earner.


Entry in this category does not preclude firms from also entering sector-specific categories (eg. Office Agency Team or Industrial Agency Team).

Placemaking Award

This category aims to celebrate the best commercial or commercial-led, mixed-use development scheme that has regenerated or physically improved the built environment on and around a particular site, disused building or location. The award is aimed at private-sector and public-private projects, including mixed-use but NOT pure residential. These projects might have bought land, buildings or localities back into sustainable economic use or created a built environment that changes the perception or use of a location. Schemes must have been fully or substantially completed by January 2021. Projects or initiatives still at the planning stage are not eligible.

The judges will be looking for evidence of the following:

  • Innovation and boldness of vision
  • Brilliant execution
  • Impact of Covid and how you have overcome/tackled the challenges posed by the pandemic
  • The positive impact of the scheme
  • Details of how the local community was engaged and any concerns handled

This award is aimed specifically at property organisations (active in development and/or investment) that have made a particular impact on the property industry between 1 December 2019 and 31 January 2021. PropTech Innovator of the Year

This category is aimed at property organisations that are proactively using technology to disrupt the property sector. Have you put technology at the heart of what you are doing? Are you using cutting-edge technology to transform the way the industry operates? Have you come up with a particularly innovative solution in the face of the Covid pandemic? Then we want to hear from you.

Innovation is the key criterion – what everyone on the shortlist will have in common is that they have done something particularly innovative or game-changing in the past 12 months – but only those who have progressed from the drawing board to implementation stage will be in serious contention for the overall prize.

It is also open to building surveyors, firms that provide planning/development or environmental advice and practices that are strong in arbitration, claims, expert witness or legal services. It is not open to facilities management companies or other property advisers.

Social Impact Initiative - Commercial Property

Social impact has been one of the breakthrough issues of the past few years and has come to the fore in the Covid-19 pandemic. To tie in with Property Week’s role as media partner to LandAid and Newcore Capital’s Pro Bono Programme, we want to celebrate the best social impact projects and initiatives of the past year (1 December 2019 to 31 January 2021).

We are looking for an organisation or individual that has implemented, completed or committed to a ground-breaking social impact scheme, project or initiative that has had a real and measurable positive social impact on the community.

Young Property Personality of the Year

We are looking for the stars of the future, the individuals who show the sort of entrepreneurialism, tenacity and vision to steer and lead the industry in years to come. You can hail from any part of the industry – be it a property organisation, a proptech company, the agency world, law… if you eat, drink and sleep property and lead where others follow, we want to hear from you.


Please note to be eligible you need to be under 40.
